FOUNDATION FIRST  - Community Revitalization Project

Foundation First is a project that assists school-aged children and families.  We work with administrators, counselors, and foster/homeless liaisons to make sure students have what they need to be successful in school and at home.  Sometimes its as simple as a coat or shoes and other times we find out they need more than that.   Some families are living in situations that make it impossible for any child to focus on their education.  Our aim is to help keep kids focused in school by making sure they have a comfortable place to sleep, healthy food to eat and decent clothes to wear.   We also assist their families by helping them find housing if they are homeless.

Thanks to all of you who donated time, money and shoes to the Art Haycox Elementary School project.  We delivered roughly 1000 pairs of shoes to fit every child in the school!   It was amazing!

PAST EVENTS

Serving Our Community In Connection With Local Schools and Churchs

Art Haycox Elementary School Shoe Project

November 18th, 2019

Art Haycox Elementary School is in a low-income area with many of the students living at or just above the poverty level.   On Sept 10th, 2019, we went and sized the feet of every child in the school and then in November we delivered a new pair of shoes for every child.!  It was an incredible experience that brought together many people in our community to donate funds, shoes and time to work with the Haycox staff and students.

Oxnard Homeless Services Resource Fair

October 16th, 2019

Our work with the homeless includes serving them at our food pantry, handing out clothes and toiletries and working with families to help them find a place to live.  We went to the homeless services fair to connect with families and individuals and hand out soap and shampoo.   We gave packages to 98 people.

One City, One Church, a Thousand Volunteers

October 12th, 2019

One Church City Serve Day is an annual event where hundreds and even thousands of volunteers go out into the city of Oxnard and help in various areas in the community.  They do everything from paying for people's laundry to beach cleanup, serve the homeless, help the foster kids and a lot of other things.   This year, we had over 20 church volunteers help us at the annual Coats and Costumes Foster Family event  that we do with Kids and Families Together.

Southwinds Resource Fair

Sept. 28th 2019

Southwinds Neighborhood in Oxnard is home to Art Haycox Elementary school and thousands of low-income children.  We attended the resource fair to give out clothes, toiletries and information on our services.  We also gave nearly 1000 beanie babies - one to each child who came by.  Thank you, New Harvest Christian School, for the donations!

The Greatest Gift Of the Season

This is one of the most rewarding events that we get to do every year, and none of it could be done without the work of our volunteers.  They do toy drives, new clothing/new pajama drives, make fleece blankets, help decorate and set up, help the parents shop, serve popcorn and even dress up like Mr. and Mrs. Santa!  Some of the children experience Christmas as a season of love and kindness for the first time ever.  We believe this is God's heart for people - to know how much He loves them, and to know this because someone showed them.

If you would like to participate in a toy drive, make fleece blankets, donate something or help in some other way, please go to the CONTACTS page and submit a comment under the button that says "DONATE".  Thank you!

We will be in need of new toys, slippers and pajamas for children of all ages.   Our yearly goal is to serve at least 200 kids at each event.

Halloween Coat and Costume Giveaways

There were two very exciting things about this year's Halloween event: One was that it coincided with an Oxnard city "One Church" serve day. On October 14th, 2017, hundreds of volunteers went out and served in various areas of the city, and some of them came out to help us.  We were so blessed to have volunteers from Calvary Chapel Oxnard, Gold Coast Christian Church and New Life Community Church come to help from this city-wide event.

The other was that Walmart manager Christy Wolff and her team of employees blocked off the garden center and built a harvest festival just for us! They built a photo area anddonated pumpkins to give to the kids, so we had a picture area, free pumpkins, costumes, face-painting, games and popcorn.  This added the Walmart staff to our volunteer list, as well as Ventura Optimists, Ventura Girl Scouts, Kids and Families and Shelter Care Resources.

Backpack Giveaways

Every year we assist at a backpack giveaway, usually around the first week of August.  We help serve roughly 200 kids and families.  Our amazing team of volunteers comes early to set up and greets families as they come.  Families are also able to take free new and used items from giveaway tables and rummage areas.

 "Run For Home" Virtual Run/Walk July 1st- 31st, 2017

During the month of July, Shelter Care Resources held the first annual "Run For Home" charity virtual run/walk.

Each participant ran or walked 31 miles, or one mile per day in July. (The distance is roughly the mileage between Dodger and Angel Stadium.) Between our runners race fees, our sponsorships and donations, we were able to raise over $2000.00!   It was a huge success which allowed us to provide for a family whose house had burned down, put furniture and bedding in the home of a family who had virtually nothing but walls and a floor, and buy supplies for our regular distribution of diapers and necessities for infants and children.
